Why even play on a game with a large player base that is suppose to interact with each other then? I have always enjoyed large scenes because I believe it makes the world feel more alive. Even if its a scene I have nothing to do in, getting 20/30/40+ people together, online, all at once, is cool. Tables and places can make that more manageable, but I think the chaos of a large scene is part of the charm.

RE: World Tone / Feelingposted in Game Gab
I think the issue is so often when the consequences come around those consequences are out of the player’s control. Which can be completely reasonable/logical! But they feel helpless and more easily feel slighted/pissed/unaccepting of the outcome. Especially if there is a hand behind the outcome such as a GM/Staff telling them what happened.
When bad results happen, I think you have to push it back on the player and let them make a choice. I was recently watching Critical Role’s new campaign and their use of their new system Daggerheart and I thought it was perfect for handling the scenario of a bad outcome/consequences in a MU*.
When a character loses all their HP in combat they are given three choices:
Blaze of Glory - They die, but they get to make an action that is an immediate critical success.
Struggle - They roll and have a 50/50 chance to either die or live.
Knocked Out - They live, are knocked out of the combat, but potentially suffer a permanent injury or setback.I think a pick your poison style of approach would reduce the negative feelings and encourage people to accept negative consequences. With some tweaking it could also be modified for non-combat bad outcomes.

I am familiar with Lancer! I plan to run a TT game using it sometime in the future.
I think it be a fun setting for a MU*, although you would have to build out the mechanics for social and non-mech interactions.

Also I want a Grimbright/Nobledark sci-fi/fantasy with mechs and lords and ladies and dragons.
Because I am like 14 and hate having to work and laying taxes.

RE: Player Ratiosposted in Game Gab
Ratios?
Staff: Exactly as many needed to run the game. It could be 1 person it could be 100.
Players: As many as needed to survive the game detonating because of OOC drama. Every time I see a neat game with 10-15 people, all I can think of is the first OOC drama is going to crater it and it will be dead.
Everything else comes from the character of said players and staff.

RE: World Tone / Feelingposted in Game Gab
I certainly want a grounded game where there can be death and consequences.
On the topic of death and consequences. I feel like the best way to have non-consent death in a game is MUD style where there is cold hard code making that decision and not necessarily GMed rolls. Only MUSH game that I have seen do that was Firan.
You also have to have a game big enough to survive the inevitable blow ups that will happen with players quitting.

You can give r/characterdrawing a try, for free. https://www.reddit.com/r/characterdrawing/s/jbVxrw8lKk
I got some amazing pieces done for some dnd characters.
Theres some amazing artists that float around there and you probably reach out for a commission. And this instagram artist did an amazing job with one prompt. https://www.instagram.com/p/CQ1pbVVDCsb/?utm_source=ig_embed&img_index=1
Here is some art where artists responded to my requests.

@Tez I didn’t gloss over it, that was part of my point re worldbuilding by describing how reproduction is handled. In this case reproduction is handled by fuckfruit and the church of fuckfruit.

RE: MU Peeves Threadposted in Rough and Rowdy
@Snackness Isn’t the OOC reason the same as the IC? Its a world filled with humans that can reproduce in some capacity. Its also a Lords and Ladies game wherein reproduction, families, genealogy, ect ect ect, has always been a major focus in that style of game. A Lords and Ladies game without some kind of detail as to how reproduction is treated would be more surprising than one with such details. This one just has a unique world-building aspect that can lead to unique stories specific to the setting.
I find the mockery more in poor taste when such details should be encouraged to give a setting more life. Literally. Ha haa.

@junipersky as long as the Compact can send a manned mission of House Valardin and House Redrain miners, on a ship built by Thrax and Lyceum, with nukes provided by the Abyss.
And the president is Morgan Freeman Grayson.

I feel I was being charitable with 30. I am not sure how many people are active. It does not feel like 30 even if that is how many show up on the WHO or such.
I have many good memories with Arx and probably my favorite character I have ever played in the hobby to date.
If the game does scale back, I think there are a lot of great stories that could be had. Although I feel like it needs a bit of a reset storywise. Maybe a time jump or something. It has felt like the story has been hanging off a cliff for years, or that someone took a great big breath and just never let it out.
Also while 30 people isn’t a bad number, I have always felt these Lords and Ladies games really need a lot of diverse players to sell that idea of a large fantasy world.

@Polk Probably! No real updates in months and whereas before you would see 70+ people theres now barely 30 it feels.

Sooo, Like, Arx is dead, right?
I still bounce on now and then thinking one day it will flourish. Oh well.

@Corinthian Shadowrun can be fun, but in my experience and taste it hits different then “pure” Gibsonian (is that a word? Now it is) Cyberpunk. Both are fun tho!
