Twice now I’ve seen someone ragequit on ares via… attempting to blank their profile. Like delete all photos and then try to leave the fields empty. Then individually leave channels.
That reminds me of the person on a Cyberpunk themed game around 2003-2004 who demanded that the staff retcon all of the stuff they did that affected the main plot.

One of the earliest like spin-offs of wora was just for bad descs and this complete lunatic who worked with George RR Martin kept sending legal threats to their hosts for violating her trademarks by making fun of her desc

I use to write these five paragraph purple prose descs to try and get on that page. I was successful once. Now I’m like: It’s a tree or It’s a costume - yay.
Free time has changed.

@Prototart Didn’t she run a game? I vaguely remember all that. She’d post on WORA, pitching a fit at anyone that posted her description making fun of her.

@RedJellyBean If it’s the person I’m thinking of, I believe so. The so-called “only officially sanctioned A Song of Ice and Fire MU.” I’m likely paraphrasing, but you get the gist of the smugness.

I am reminded of a similar crash out back on… NOLA 2?
A player posted a NSFW log (it was this player and their IRL partner) on the wiki without tagging it. The head staff/game runner asked said person to either remove it or at least tag it.
The player then proceeds to crash out, tearing down everything about them and their partner’s characters from the wiki. Apparently also threw a tantrum at staff about the whole situation before leaving. Their partner seemed genuinely apologetic (and embarrassed) about it all, said sorrys for their partner and them, then quietly left as well.

The only game I’m really on right now has an average desc length of like three sentences and mine are all still five paragraphs even tho nobody reads them. I refuse to learn lessons of any kind.

My reminder of that incident reminds me of another thing.
Anyone remember the infamous Digichat game Shadows on the Bay? With the super incest magic family? And a bunch of other terrible things?
The gamerunner/head admin was all about WLW. Their supposed WLW partner helped them run the site. And there was a random dude that did the coding work.
Turns out the ‘random dude’ was actually the partner and the gamerunner had a jealous streak so bad they didn’t even want anyone touching their partner as their actual male self…
It was weird.

I always enjoyed people trying to destroy other players wiki pages as part of a flounce out. Like they don’t realise you can just restore a previous version of the page? idk. Happened a few times over the years at Haunted Memories as I recall.

That desc was on WORA itself, in the ‘Tasteless Descs’ subforum. The player did threaten to sue, repeatedly, which disturbed the server owner, and is why WORA was hosted in Malaysia for a while.
She still runs a game, it’s Blood of Dragons. George R. R. Martin did indeed give her and her spouse permission to make and run one. They have claimed that this means that any other one is specifically not allowed. So when I was running a Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire MUSH she had posted on hers that mine was such a criminal disrespect to GRRM that any Blood of Dragons player found to be playing Game of Bones, or even talking about it, would be banned from BoD, and possibly driven naked through the streets.
GRRM does not care, trust me.
She and her spouse co-wrote The World of Ice and Fire and you can tell which bits are hers.
She’s a bit of an embarassment to the fandom, having spent the entire run of the Game of Thrones teevee series bitching about the casting of any actor who wasn’t white. And for a while was going around telling people who disagreed to “eat n**** balls,” and then claiming it wasn’t racist because she’s Swedish and that’s the direct translation of the Swedish name for a kind of chocolate confection that people in Sweden long ago renamed to “chocolate balls” like one would expect.
Probably the real underlying situation with this couple and GRRM is that GRRM started writing this 5000+ page epic and did not make himself a concordance. But those two and the BoD players made A Wiki of Ice and Fire, and GRRM uses it.

The real contest was to try to write a desc that would scroll anyone’s screen, contained as many treasured cliches like ‘sparkling orbs gaze into your soul’ as you could pack in, yet did not tell the reader anything about what the character actually looks like.
Eyes: Sparkling, soulful and impid, but of undetermined colour. Hair: Luscious and cascading, but of no particular colour or length. Skin: Flawless. Height: Graceful. Shape: Exquisite and touchable. Age: Blooming.

This feels like the advanced version of me complaining about how much I hate writing descs: “I don’t know. S/he has a face and stuff. It’s probably fine.”
